Why is Child Sponsorship Effective?
• Sponsorship provides opportunities
Sponsorship focuses on helping the most vulnerable members of society - children. It provides opportunities that are simply not available to most of the world's poorest children, such as schooling, health care, and social benefits . . . basic rights.
Sponsorship stays for the long haul, fostering learning and growth in the lives of children and their families. The results? Healthy children, healthy families and healthy communities.
• Sponsorship targets the root causes of poverty
By and large, the root causes of poverty lie in a lack of choices rather than in a shortage of money. Through education, protecting the rights of children, and community development - CAUSE Kids nurtures opportunities for children. Children who have choices gain the power to direct their own lives, achieve autonomy and break the bondage of poverty.
• Sponsorship nurtures self-reliance
Sponsorship provides educational opportunities, nutrition and medical care for sponsored children. Well-educated, healthy citizens are self-reliant. They do not become dependent on hand-outs, but build their nation's wealth.

The child you help will have just one sponsor - you. Through letters, pictures, and prayers, you develop a personal relationship with your child.

What Distinguishes CAUSE Kids Sponsorship From Other Sponsorship Programs?
• Extensive Track Record in Long-Term Community Development
CAUSE Kids builds on CAUSE Canada's community development efforts over the past 22 years. Very few organizations can demonstrate the same longevity and successful long-term commitment as can CAUSE Canada.
• Holistic Approach to Child Sponsorships
CAUSE Kids is positioned to be one of the few organizations that can utilize child sponsorship funds to truly benefit the child and the child's community. CAUSE Kids goes further than most in focusing on education while addressing ALL of those factors that contribute to education and breaking the poverty cycle (food, health, clothing, microfinance economic development for families of sponsored children, and community development programs). In contrast, many child sponsorship programs have a very specific focus - i.e. supporting only education or only food, or supporting only certain children such as orphans.
• Focus on Under-Assisted Regions (particularly Sierra Leone)
CAUSE Canada has a long relationship with Sierra Leone and has had much success with its community development programs in the West African country. CAUSE Canada was working in Sierra Leone prior to and during the internal conflict when many others would not. Now, CAUSE Canada is focusing on Koinadugu a region in Sierra Leone where others are not.

How do Children Benefit From Sponsorship?
All our programs are designed to meet the unique needs of sponsored children, who have the opportunity to:
• Receive an education
Sponsored children receive educational assistance, which includes provision for school supplies and clothing, as well as primary education development workers who assist in curriculum development.
• Be healthy
CAUSE Kids supports programs in schools that provide a hot meal to all children. Further, a public health nurse is made available on site to monitor health and provide first aid, as well as immunizations and health education.
• Develop thriving families and communities
CAUSE Kids recognizes that development of the families standard of living and the communities well-being ultimately benefit the sponsored child. Accordingly, a number of programs are implemented to assist as appropriate for each particular situation - i.e. micro-finance, community agricultural programs, health education, and other community projects (eg. potable water, re-construction, etc.).
• Develop a relationship with a sponsor
Sponsored children establish a real connection with their sponsors through prayers, pictures and letters. The fact they feel valued and loved contribute positively to their development.

What Does Sponsorship Cost?
It costs $35 per month, or about a dollar a day, to sponsor a child through CAUSE Kids. For some, this is a substantial commitment. But the financial sacrifice is more than warranted, when you consider the incredible difference your help makes in a child's life.
